Margaret Wood
Patron of the Harris Community Scholarship Fund and past President from 1990-2015
I've lived in the inner suburbs of Sydney for over 51 years. For 30 years of this time Ive been a resident in Pyrmont.
My working life was in Administration Services with a European Shipping Container Agent for 24 years.
During the mid 1980’s to 1990’s my time here on the Pyrmont Ultimo peninsula I was involved with the many workshops and meetings connected to the redevelopment of the area and conducted walking tours of Pyrmont Ultimo & Haymarket and have seen the changes of Pyrmont & Ultimo take shape today.
It was during the redevelopment time our Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 to commemorate 200 years of first European settlement (Surgeon John Harris 1790) here on the Pyrmont Ultimo peninsula.
I now devote my time to the fund along with my team.
A quote from City of Sydney former City Historian Dr. Shirley Fitzgerald
"This fund is a model of community involvement in encouraging local achievement in education. Its aims are modest but its impact is both in the specific role it plays and in generating a sense of community at the level of the local school."

Cathy Horan

I have a great interest in encouraging youth to develop their talents and complete University or Tertiary education
I first joined the Harris Community Scholarship Fund in 2001 as a teacher and environment officer at TAFE, keen to support year 6 students from Ultimo Public school to achieve their goals, develop leadership skills and engage with their local community
It a real priveldge to help select students for the HCSF and to follow their progress over nine years at High School and University. We are keen to provide work experience for the scholarship holders and encourage their leadership and engagement in their communities.
